Photo Series Feature

I came across this beautiful series while browsing the newest photography section. EffyRosePhotos takes a series of self portraits expressing her emotions after falling ill.

The Things They Didn't See

Photo Series Background
"I got into self portraits after I fell extremely ill in November 2011, it helped me express my frustrations, fears and pain because I didn't really know how to talk about what I was going through. In 2012 I got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and in 2014 I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, two chronic illnesses that have made a huge impact on my life.

Since last July my health started to go down hill even more, I was hospitalized twice and in my second hospital stay, this project started. Over the last 8 months, I've boxed myself in, the less people know the better, in these self portraits I tried to express the feelings that no one saw. With any chronic illness, your body isn't the only thing that suffers, your mental well being does too, these photos were taken to help me cope with everything that's been going on over the last few months. They also show the side that people don't see, we have to keep a happy face on, as people don't respond well to people who aren't mentally stable, so we fake a smile and get on with life, but behind it all we struggle and we fight every day to get out of bed.
That's the side I wanted to show through these images."
